M etro: Last Light was a great sequel that refined and improved upon the mechanics of the original while telling an engaging story. There was also a film adaptation developed by MGM that would have taken place in Washington D.C., but this was later cancelled. The success of the first game spawned 2013's Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus, with Artyom being the protagonist of all three. The Metro game series has proven hugely popular too but far from being a splashy Call Of Duty-style experience, they're a unique mix of action, stealth and survival horror. The Metro 2033 novel led to a franchise, with Glukhovsky penning two further novels, which led to comic books and further spinoff books. Surviving a devastating nuclear assault isn't enough to ensure peace, however, as rival factions wrestle for control while mutated monsters run around in the dark. Both the book and game take place years after a nuclear attack on Russia forced survivors underground, where they are forced to make a new life in the dark, sprawling metro system.
